Contractor equipment located at a job site or in a storage yard can face special hazards, and underwriters and brokers need a comprehensive understanding of these hazards in order to acquire an accurate picture of their possible exposures.

SCM Risk Management Services (RMS) conducts Contractor Equipment Surveys so that underwriters and brokers can gain a comprehensive overview of the type of equipment they are insuring, the type of business operating the equipment, as well as the physical area surrounding the operations. Risk managers can also use these reports as objective documentation for their risk management programs. RMS' objective, third-party survey empowers insurers with a thorough snapshot of the risks associated with contractor equipment, including fire protection and theft, all in one comprehensive report.

Helping You Understand The Risks

Our reports help you determine risk in terms of site storage, special hazards, and risk deficiencies for the purposes of loss prevention, improving safety, or enhancing protection. Our Loss Control Specialists will visit the job site or storage facility and work with site staff to conduct the surveys.

During these site visits, RMS Loss Control Specialists will consider:

  • Site and business descriptions
  • Operations – contractors, dealers, types of projects
  • Type of equipment including fire suppression systems
  • Site security – fencing, alarms, equipment identification, etc.
  • How equipment is transported
  • Operator standards including training programs or hiring standards;
  • Storage conditions
  • Common hazards including types of electrical wiring, plumbing, heating, etc.
  • Liability
  • Pre-job planning including traffic control
  • Special hazards including welding and flammable liquids on site
  • Levels of fire protection available

They will then package all this information neatly into one report, and include actionable recommendations which can be leveraged as part of a preventative risk management plan.
